The Making of Coral...

Made By Coral

I wanted to take you all back to that horrible period of time that new graduates go through- life after graduation...

After all the hard work, stress and build up to the big ending to Uni life you get handed this red cardboard tube that contains a piece of paper that states you have a BA Honors Degree  and it feels you have achieved so much and come so far in life and then after that....NOTHING!!!

The truth is folks even after undertaking a 4 year degree course finding work is hard like we all keep hearing in the news. So I carried on working in Pizza Hut which had been my part time job all the way through art school to make ends meet, meanwhile I searched for jobs or funding.

With no loom at home to carry on with my textiles work, I felt lost! With no way for my being creative and so Made By Coral, my very own card making business was born. It was also a way to be proactive and keep myself busy as I love working to deadlines, (weird I no!) so started setting up stall events in Glasgow to sell my work and make some extra cash!

Looking back I am so glad I started my creative work again even if its just in a small way, as I feel in life things don't just happen and that you really have to make things happen for yourself. And without this I would have lost the faith in my creative side....Now 9 months on I have a full time job in the textile industry, have a £1000 bursary from the Spring Fling, and have a loom on rent at home for my weaving.

"Made By Coral is a very tiny business I have just started up as a way to keep me creative after finishing my degree in textile design this summer at The Glasgow School of Art.

All my greetings cards are designed and handmade by myself, and as I work mainly with found vintage items or hand paint a lot of my cards so they are individual. I have a love for vintage style, cakes and buttons and this can often be seen in my work. "

I will be selling my cards along with my woven textile work at this years Spring Fling in June :)

Spring Equinox...

Spring equinox heralds official end of winter

Tuesday's equinox marks the point in space and time when the sun moves across the celestial equator from south to north (The Guardian)

So it couldn't be more perfect that on this day I was contacted by Tonia at Spring Fling and asked along with other Spring Fling exhibitors to send them to send them one or two sentences that sum up how I feel towards Spring Fling.

My Reply....

The Spring Fling has become a real platform for me at the start of my textiles career, and it is my chance to show everyone how I see the world...a place filled with pattern.

Bring on the Spring!

Many Happy Returns...

Spring Fling Taster Exhibition

Friday was such a lovely day, such a nice change from the day job and weaving. I drove down to Kirkcubright to spend the day with Morag and have another one of our mentoring days. This week I am feel a whole lot better about the work I have and feel I have a much better idea of how I am going to use the rest of my time in the coming months on the run up to June.

So at 5 o'clock we then set off for Dumfries to attend the Spring Fling Taster Exhibition, where all Spring Fling exhibitors where showcasing their work as a preview for June time. And I guess this marked the start of its 10th Birthday....

It was nice to finally start putting some faces to the names of the people I have been hearing about over the last few months, and to see new work from artists and makers that I have seen as I have grown up.

Happy 10th Birthday Spring Fling!
